SUMMARY:Safe Travel for All Children (STAC) Training
DESCRIPTION:Location: IWK Cineplex\nDates:  Nov 13\, 14\, 2026 (Friday\, Saturday)\n2-day in person training\nTimes: 8:00am-5:00pm\nFee: $250 per accepted participant (no cost for IWK staff)\n \n \n\nThis training will take place at the IWK Health Centre with funding support from the Nova Scotia Dept. of Public Works. \n\n\n\n\n\n“Safe Travel for All Children: Transporting Children with Special Healthcare Needs” is designed to serve as an enrichment training for Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs). This initiative is specifically intended for occupational therapists\, physiotherapists\, medical equipment vendors\, or other health care staff who directly support the safe positioning and transportation needs of infants\, children\, and youth as part of their role. \nThis 2-day course training features lectures and discussions with hands-on exercises including interactions with families. Participants will review medical conditions that can affect restraint selection and have the opportunity to investigate and install adaptive restraint systems for vehicles. The training includes a written exam and proficiency check-offs that evaluate the student’s ability to assess appropriate restraints and to demonstrate proper selection\, use and installation. \nApplication:\nThere are 10 positions available. DESCRIPTION:Help parents and caregivers choose and use car seats and booster seats safely. \n\nGander\, NL – Now Filled – Apply for the waitlist\nDates: July 7\, 8\, 9\, 10 – 2026 (Tues\, Wed\, Thurs\, Fri)\nTimes: 8:30am-4:30pm every day\nCourse fee: $300\nInstructor: Katherine Hutka\nWith support from the government of Newfoundland and Labrador\, Child Safety Link\, and Gander Bay and Area Family Resource Centre\n\n\n\n\nThe Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) training course takes place over 4 days and includes classroom instruction\, demonstrations\, hands-on practice\, multiple-choice knowledge checks and a practical exam in the form of a public car seat check clinic. \nWith this training you can:\n– Plan a community seat check event\n– Give a booster seat presentation at your local school or community centre\n– Answer car seat questions for a parenting or prenatal class\n– Connect with local law enforcement to plan a roadside check\n– Meet with parents and caregivers for one-on-one to support\n– Provide a workshop for your staff \nThis fee includes certification with the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada for 3 years\, a printed copy of the manual and all supplies.\nThe cost for this workshop is $ 300 to offset costs. \nThis course is offered as a part of injury prevention programming through Child Safety Link – with funding from the province of Newfoundland & Labrador.\n\nNow Filled – Apply for the waitlist\nApply to register at this link: https://forms.gle/QXmTkdMtD5u6nasg6
